Shoulder pain is common in workers beyond the age of 50 and is often associated with occupations or day-to-day activities overloading the shoulder.
It is characterised by stiffness, loss of mobility and pain in the shoulder joint.
Shoulder pain is very common and depending on the cause, it can be self-limiting and/or aided with manual therapy such as Osteopathy. However, if you are experiencing pain for over 2 weeks and/or night pain, it is advised to consult a GP.
Some common causes of Shoulder Pain
- Muscle or ligament strain due to overuse most commonly (e.g.overhead activities)
- Discs issues causing pain in the shoulder
- Arthritis
- Local or generall swelling due to other underlying pathologies
- Previous/current local injuries
- Overuse over time
